Knee Swelling with SLE and Fibromyalgia

hello I'm Salli. I was diagnosed at age 25 with SLE and later fibromyalgia. I have a question about knee problems. I always seem to have swelling or possibly fluid on the outer side of my knee cap on both knees. sometimes L is worse than R. lately my knees ache from feeling so full/swollen. anyone else experience this and is there anything to be done for it?

Hi, Salli! Could it be one of the medications you’re on? They put me on Celebrex a couple of months ago (in addition to Plaquenil). At first, it was really working. Easing a good amount of joint pain and I even had a bit of energy for once! Then, about a month in, I noticed I was bloated, retaining water in my knees, ankles, hands, and abdomen. I took myself off of it and the swelling went down within days. Makes me upset as I was so thrilled with the initial results, but the swelling was much worse than the benefit

all I take is Plaquenil and Nsaids currently. I am switching rheumatologist also so I am hoping a new one can help me figure out the knee issue.

Ask your doctor for Cortizone shot for your knees to feel a lot better and ask if you can get physical therapy
