Living with Fibromyalgia: Coping with Pain and Uncertainty

I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia in Highschool. I always have had pain all over but most of the time it's not too bad so I can get through the day it feels more like my body is weighed down and tingling all over and I'm constantly tired. It acts up when I'm emotional or stressed or even with the weather and can leave me crying and unable to do anything from the pain. I went to the doctor in highschool and without running any tests they told me it was fibromyalgia and never told me anything about what I can do to help with the pain. I worry though that it might not be fibromyalgia because my mom has Lupus and Lupus can be genetic and has the same sort of symptoms. Is there anything I can do to help with the pain and should I try and be tested by a different doctor?

If you can i would get a second opinion, have the doctor run tests. Healty eating and exercise can help, but you also want to balance what you do with how much your body can handle(I am not great at this). I have the same issue with weather and pressure systems coming in, and feeling physical pain when i get upset.

Definitely get a second opinion, especially with the history of Lupus! Ask for testing. I would try a rhumetologist for sure, as they can help rule that stuff out. Just be careful because some of them only like to see you after a diagnosis. But that’s hard when no one will give you one! It might be fibromyalgia but it also might not be. There are so many treatments out there for fibro, I really think you just need a new doctor.

YES! You should be tested by another doctor! Fibromyalgia is a syndrome of exclusion and you should never be diagnosed with it until every single thing it could be is ruled out. Emotions and weather can worsen pain in most syndroms and conditions. Please find someone better

Definitely see another doctor. Last year, I developed chronic migraines that kept getting worse. Things got progressively worse, I developed extreme fatigue, muscle pain, and unintentional weight loss. My first appointment with my Rheumatologist, he disregarded everything and said it was just fibromyalgia. Thankfully, he ordered a lot of blood tests. It came back positive for Lupus. Once on the right meds, I have felt better most of the time.
