Hello! Has anyone been diagnosed with Lupus and prescribed Plaquenil but stopped taking it due to bad side effects? What are you doing instead? Thanks in advance 🙂

In addition to Hydroxychloroquine, I take Azathirpine (sp?) I had no side effects from it. It is a harsher medication, and they make you take a blood test quarterly while you are on it. They have to make sure it isn’t building up in your system. I’ve been on it for six years and have never had an issue.

*No side effects from the Azathirophrine. Hydroxychloroquine is a beast.

I’m surprised no one has really responded to this. Have you been on it long? If you are looking for some tips of ways to not have such harsh side effects. I might be able to help, depending on the side effects. If it’s nausea and hot flashes I’m your girl. Feel free to message me, I’ve been on Hydroxychkoroquine (plaquenil ) for about 6 years

thanks for the response. I was on it for 9 months and it was my my symptoms actually got worse. The swelling, the fatigue, the rashes, all got worse when I took the medicine. I stopped it around the time I made this post and honestly feel so much better

Hi! I am on hydroxychloriquine and was having terrible GI issues so I spaced out my dosing and it’s getting better. My friend with lupus takes chloroquine because he couldn’t tolerate hydroxychloriquine and is doing much better

I have to take Plaquenil with food - as in at the same moment - or I fee nauseous and feverish. For me it’s been worth it. I’ve been on it 4 years now and my blood work and symptoms stabilized after the first 6 months. If I wasn’t seeing any benefits I would stop it immediately.

I have been on Hydroxchlorquine for years. I must tolerate it pretty good but do have some dizziness from time to time.
