Managing Bipolar 2 with Lithium Carbonate: Expectations for Depression Episodes

Should I expect a complete lack of episodes on a therapeutic dose of Lithium carbonate? Or are shorter bouts of depression to be expected? I have bipolar 2 and honestly usually have good experiences when manic but the depression is bad. Wondering if I would be getting my hopes up to high to think I won't have depressive episodes at all.

I am on lithium and it's honestly not working for me at all .. they are upping my dose and I hope that helps but even before when I was on a higher dose, it wasn't fully suppressing my depressive episodes. I would say it just depends on the person and what works for you. lithium might make your symptoms less apparent, sorter lasting, make them go away completely or do nothing at all.

I’m on lithium. I’m my normal moody self, in a muted way, but I will always have extreme experiences to a certain degree. I think now I’ve discovered that an outlet for these mercurial experiences is integral for a meaningful life.

I think that with an outlet, these experiences can be really meaningful! even a thing to celebrate when it isn't weighing us down really hard. I am working on seeing bipolar as a gift that allows me to experience the world differently from others.
