It's a difficult question... I think there are different levels for controlling it, some levels of control won't suffice for some people. I went through a long process with my psychiatrist to get it almost out of my life, but I think it will always be somewhere in the back of my mind you know?

the ability to really “ control “ it depends from system to system. you never know what can cause dissociation or a switch or the like. maybe keep a journal to write down what makes you dissociate + etc vs. what makes you ‘ snap out ‘ of it
