Looking for advice on managing metabolic disorders

Hi I'm Erica. Diagnosed with Grave's disease and had recent thyroidectomy. Recently diagnosed with PCOS and insulin resistance. Haven't lost any weight since the surgery. Anyone else have experience with these metabolic disorders who can offer me advice?

Can you help? Connect today

Hey Erica, I suffered from grave’s, and I had my thyroid removed a year ago. Im taking calcium, rocaltrol and euthyrox. I haven’t lost any weight since the surgery too, I don’t know if I should be happy about it or not 🤔

Oh no. Well I thought I was fat before when I weighed 180 pounds. But after being put on methimazole for a handful of months, it caused me to gain so much weight and now I'm at 227 pounds! I've never been this big in my life and I'm miserable. My doctor told me that if I had the surgery, that the graves would go away and my weight would return to normal or at least lose a good 20 or 30 pounds of it but I've done nothing but continuously gain weight and now I have high blood pressure, high cholesterol, high triglycerides, PCOS, and now as a result of all of that, I'm insulin resistant but my glucose is normal. So insurance company won't even pay for me to use diabetes medicine because I'm not technically diabetic yet and I can't seem to find anything to lose the weight. I was kind of hoping that things might get better as time goes on, but from what you are saying, it sounds like graves disease patients can't lose weight after thyroidectomy usually? 😥

I’m on the same path. They keep telling me my hormone levels are managed on my medication but I cannot lose weight no matter what I do. Feeling SO discouraged.

I didn’t say that you can’t lose weight after thyroidectomy, I merely said that I haven’t… I’m so sorry for what you’re going through! ): I know it’s not easy but please don’t lose hope! Have you considered seeing a nutritionist? She might be able to help
