Marijuana and Mental Health: Friend or Foe?

Marijuana- friend or foe? Do you think weed affects your mania? What about psychosis? It helps with my aversion to food when I depressed and helps with sleep.

I have used it since I started treating my Schizoaffective disorder! I have to use it if I want to eat because I have no appetite whatsoever and also when I need to sleep + trazodone because my insomnia makes it to where I could stay awake for days. I have to be careful the amount and the strain I use because I have gone into psychosis from using marijuana — and I also feels like there are times the mania escapes a bit. Overall I personally enjoy it and use it I just know I have to be HYPERAWARE of what I’m using and when

Friend, it helps my depressive episodes and anxiety, but may increase my paranoia/psychosis.

I smoke to help my ptsd and anxiety. As long as it’s the right strain then it does help me calm down and doesn’t contribute to any mania. But some strains have made me incredibly paranoid, and I believe contributed to my first full blown manic episode. To avoid it I have to be selective with the strain, watch my dosage, and dont mix with other substances like alcohol. Then I don’t have any issues.

Glad that you were diagnosed right eventually. It's so funny that as a society if someone is extremely happy it's fine but if someone is depressed something is wrong with him. But extremity is never a good thing for any direction.

it’s the only thing that makes me feel calm and happy. it makes my binge eating worse, but has never affected my hypomania or even made me anxious. it’s best to use any medicine under the supervision of a doctor, but of course with weed that’s not always possible.

Marijuana is the only thing that stops my episodes. I am treatment resistant so when they stopped I was incredibly relieved. I only smoke indica but when I smoked sativa as well I would switch them to neutralize an episode if I did forget to smoke and one came on. Smoking it is also the only way I let myself drink coffee as I go manic if I dont. So now I can also get ADHD relief without mania, though i wouldnt try to smoke with adderal I dont think itll be that strong to counter it for me. I also use CBD and CBGA for an antipsychotic (cPTSD type) and for anxiety. I use a lot more CBD to calm hallucinations in high triggering periods. Now I hallucinate and have delusions from trauma but they are very distinct from any hallucinations I get from smoking too much weed and While Im not mad at it since I retain all insight and none of it is scary i dont normally get to that point. when I do its on purpose because Im in pain. Also found it helps my chronic illnesses. It is my best medication and I feel incredibly lucky to have found it. I smoke a bit through the day and the only thing my bipolar affects me on is my circadian rhythm.

I find smoking helps a lot when I am in a depressive episode and when I become irritable during mantic episodes. I know for me sativa can make me paranoid and trigger intense manic episodes, so I would suggest starting off with indica until you know how you will react to marijuana.

I truly believe it helps decrease the intensity and number of episodes I experience. I see it as a significant assistant in the lessening of ADHD and PTSD symptoms I experience on top of having bipolar 2. It helps me in dealing with traumatic experiences and creating a positive flow of energy through my brain to help require those nasty dysfunctional neural pathways my traumatic childhood caused me to have. As someone who smokes multiple times a day, every day, I am probably one of the biggest advocates out there for how significantly it positively effects my overall consciousness.

It helped me with panic attacks, mania, and psychosis. But that's my personal experience. Marijuana has been a great medication and an all natural medication and it's safer for me personally than the chemicals I got at the pharmacy.

Marijuana was super helpful to my depression and PTSD at first. Then it just stopped working and all of the sudden I got super paranoid on it and would green out all the time. Had to switch to just meds. I still microdose mushrooms occasionally though and that has continued to be helpful. Just not all the time. Like once every 6 months minimum, sometimes longer.
