Tell them the truth: the effectiveness of your medication is waning, and you need your dose upped to get back to effective treatment. They might do something like raise you to 1.25 or 1.5 mg first though.

In my experience psychiatrists hate to raise the benzo drugs doses because of addiction and tolerability. Are you also taking SSRIs? Maybe your doctor would prefer raising these drugs

In my experience if I tell my doctor it's no longer working she will up them or try something else. Just be honest with them hope that helps

Be careful upping your dose. I took Klonopin and Xanax (2mg) for 18 years for anxiety and now I have short term memory loss. I am weaning off my Xanax now and it is the hardest thing I’ve ever done; terrible withdrawal symptoms. Taking Hydroxyzine for my withdrawal symptoms…it makes my hands stop shaking and calms me a little. The best meds for anxiety are benzos, but do you want to with possible memory loss later in life? Good luck!

😥I'm sorry,it's sad that you feel the need to explain... You shouldn't have to tell ANYONE that you are not seeking... I have a similar situation, been on multiple meds for 10 yrs and now they have decided that my benzo and pain meds don't mix... Well they did for 9 years! Making me taper off to nothing or no pain medicine...

Hey Jag! After a long period of use, I also felt that benzo didn't help me anymore. It was hard to think that I needed to change a treatment that saved me in hard times. Fortunately, I found that SSRIs help me too. I'd recommend giving it a try.
