Struggling with Hunger Signals due to MELAS and Mental Health

Does anybody else with MELAS or mental health problems fail to get the "I'm hungry" signal from their brain? I will go days without eating, not by choice, but because I forget we need to eat to survive because I never get hungry. same with water because I don't understand the fact that I'm thirsty. The brain does not compute.

I struggle to eat and drink because I don't get the signals either. I constantly keep a water bottle beside me so I don't forget to drink. I have someone that reminds me to eat constantly aswell

I experiences and I also have something similar to IBS which makes it even harder because sometimes I don't want to eat because I think that it would bother me than if I didn't eat.

I don’t experience the same thing with not feeling hungry however I am exactly the same when it comes to feeling thirsty and I’m always being reminded to drink as the the only way I will recognise that I need to drink is when I get a headache from not drinking enough

All the time, the only way I tell every day is if I get incredibly nauseous or I get a headache, then it’s a fun guessing game if I’m hungry, in pain, dehydrated, etc.
