Misdiagnosed with ADHD instead of epilepsy

When I was about 7 I started having absence seizures. My doctor misdiagnosed me with ADHD (which I have developed but I know for sure it wasn’t epilepsy). He put me on ADHD meds that made me very sick. Has anyone else been misdiagnosed this badly?

i was actually diagnosed with epilepsy when i was 16 after i had my first grand mal seizure and i felt a lot of resentment for everyone not getting me help before. i’m glad i’m not the only one the health care system failed

Oh yeah I went into the doctor for my first grand mal seizure and they thought I had passed out because my period was so heavy that they tried putting me on birth control even though I knew it wasn’t because of my period. 3 more seizures and 6 months later i’m in the E.R. where they tell me they think i had a grand mal seizure, a week later they diagnosed me with epilepsy. It really pissed me off. how could the doctors be soooo wrong? I’m sorry you went through that. you shouldn’t have. doctors should do more tests instead of just basing their diagnosis’s off of a theory.

the healthcare system has failed too many of us..and it’s sad that there’s so many more people who don’t use this app that have probably struggled with this

I was diagnosed with grand male epilepsy at 10 and put on Tegratol for it. After 6 years of having hundreds of petit mal fits a day and, effectively, being a zombie, I found out at 16 that I actually had petit mal and was finally put on Epilim, the correct medication.
