Looking for new IBS treatments

Does anyone else have IBS with mixed symptoms, and what works for you? I have both diarrhea and constipation (fun right?) along with awful persistent gas and bloating, and sometimes pain and fatigue, throughout the day. Disclaimer, I’ve tried nearly all OTC and prescription treatments for IBS and nothing so far has helped. I’ve tried herbal remedies as well. Antibiotics, antifungals, various diets, laxatives, hypnotherapy, and more. I’ve tried the low FODMAP diet and that also did not fix the problem. I avoid a lot of foods. Gluten free, dairy free, vegetarian (by choice). I feel like there’s nothing left to try and might just have these symptoms my whole life, but I would love to find something new to try and hopefully it works! Open to anything, really, what works for you?

Hey Banana. Sounds like your symptoms are very similar to mine. I have IBS-c along with a delayed Digestive system. I also have acid reflux disease along with ridiculous bloating of my stomach. What has helped me the most (so far) is keeping my body regulated as much as I can. I use two things for that: Rockstar energy drink (fruit punch) and Papaya Digestive Support by Country Life. The Rockstar energy drink is my go-to if I'm needing a movement. For me, I drink it halfway and suddenly I can go again! The papaya Digestive wafers don't work as well, but they are less invasive. Pop 3 after each meal and it keeps me decently regulated. I have figured that I'm missing something in my diet which is causing a lot of my ibs symptoms. Whatever it is, it's in the Rockstar Energy Drink. I plan to restart my diet and cut out everything besides chicken for a week or so. Then I'm going to add one food at a time to see if anything else triggers me. I recently found out that dark chocolate triggers my ibs like crazy. Also, if you live in the US, I would check out what foods are banned in Europe that you happen to have in your diet. I do a lot of research and I've learned theres a lot of product that is in American food but is banned in many other countries. I will be removing those from my diet soon. Hope this helps!

very interesting about the foods banned in europe, I will look into that! I truly think the American diet ruined my gut 😂 oof! I felt much better when I studied abroad so you’re onto something. I think the milk thistle and caffeine in Rockstar must do the trick! Very intriguing. Thanks for the advice :)

I had a terrible bout last night! I was up till 4 getting sick, terrible pain, bloating. My stomach was rock hard. I have Gastroparesis too. I can’t do caffeine at all. Sugar is terrible for me so I limit that. Which is awful because I crave it. I try not to do a lot of processed foods. I can’t eat anything raw. I switched to unsweetened applesauce. It takes awhile to figure out what works & doesn’t for your body. I don’t eat salad, chocolate, acidic foods, marinara. I eat a lot of potatoes w little on them. Protein is hard for me. I do make smoothies w almond milk. I eat some yogurt too. Elimination diet like she suggested helps you figure it out but some days my body just quits. Stress makes a difference!

thanks for the advice :) i have tried very restrictive elimination diets and did feel a little better… it’s difficult to sustain long term since my doctor was worried about my BIM getting too low I think. Potatoes are the best! Agreed! Plain foods usually help reduce my symptoms but then don’t give enough nutrition which is frustrating. I have a love hate with coffee because sometimes it’s the cure I need and sometimes it makes things much worse!! Trial and error there.
