Need help with nightmares

So, just curious I've been having god awful nightmares and seem to only get help with not remembering them at least if I get high. I will end up fighting sleep and be up for 40 hours or more before my body crashes. I don't like melatonins effect on me. I'm just wondering what y'all do or what works to fend off nightmares.

Can you help? Connect today

so i have a nightmare disorder (i get them every single night) and i don’t like melatonin because 1. it leaves me really groggy in the morning and 2. while it forces me to sleep, it doesn’t stop the nightmares. i don’t have a full fix to it but i’d talk to a doctor if you can; there are medications that are known to help with nightmares. right now i’m on a small dose of seroquel right before bedtime and it does help - i still get nightmares (which i dont expect to ever stop), but it eases how bad they are a lot of the time. nightmares are a really tough thing because not a lot of people know what to do about them :/ i’m sorry i don’t have a way to stop them entirely, but good luck!

I have nightmare disorder and really the only thing that helps is talking about it. I've tried every drug for it including marijuana. all i can do to get to sleep is wait for my meds to knock me out. I wish there was more we could do for it

Similar to what fun said above: I've had nightmares or at least extremely stressful dreams my whole life. Seroquel has helped a lot -- definitely hasn't made them go away, but they're MUCH less stressful. I also smoke weed on a regular basis, but that never did much in the way of stopping nightmares for me.

It's kinda interesting how everyone responds to nightmares differently. I mean different things helping others that did nothing for you. Weed does help me I mean I'll still wake up in a panic somedays but otherwise majority of the time I'm alright. I'm still searching though for an alternative to weed so I can perhaps attempt to get a job but hopefully I'll find something.

I had a sleep study done and found out I have ptsd and sleep apnea. When we treated the sleep apnea, the nightmares decreased- also if applicable, seek out spiritual perspectives on nightmares and their solutions. Sometimes these things are connected.

I saw my psychiatrist and spoke with her she put me in Seroquel to help my sleep. It was either that or trazadone and I have had a bad experience with the later. I just need to cut my Seroquel in half and start it most likely tonight. I know putting off sleep is a bad idea but idk seems better than waking up in a panic due to a nightmare or night terror. Thanks guys for all the help and advice.

I experience flashbacks through my nightmares. Unfortunately, medication was the only thing I found that helped. I take a low dose of seroquel.

I have nightmares nearly every time I sleep. I got put on meds (prazosin) and it helps me a ton. 10/10 recommend.
