Norethindrone for Endometriosis: Experiences and Side Effects

Has anyone else’s doctor prescribed them norethindrone? If so have you taken it? Has it helped? Has anyone experienced any side effects? My doctor prescribed it for me for my endometriosis and I’m always wary about medicines after they way Orilissa affected me. Especially medicines that I have to take a high dose of.

Thank you for responding! If you don’t mind me asking, what dosage are you on?

My doctor wants me to go up to 15 since my endo is recurring and I’m really nervous about going up that high

I have taken it for 9 years in combination with spironolactone. That has worked pretty well for me most of the time. My cycle was fairly regular and shorter total length with less cramps for a long time after I started it. I am having a flare up currently though and they want me to get a bone scan soon.

Does this medicine affect bone density?

I take norethindrone every day with no side effects. My dr added it on top of my nexplanon implant and the combo works really well for me but everyone’s different. I have no bleeding or symptoms from my endo or pcos on it (5mg) not sure what side effects are more likely at a higher dose but if you’ve been taking it at a lower dose upping it shouldn’t be too much of a shock on your body

I've been on it for three years. The only side effect I've had is weight gain, but I needed to gain weight and I'm also on epilepsy meds for something different, so weight gain was inevitable for me anyway 😅 norethindrone acetate is ALWAYS the first thing I tell people to ask their doctor about if traditional estrogen bc isn't working (because I also got pregnant while on estrogen bc, although I later miscarried because my endo is that bad). The only downside is that you can't get it for free because you're using it for non-contraceptive purposes. you can tell by the dose, I'm on 5mg of norethindrone and the birth control dose is 0.35mg 💀

I’ve been taking it for a couple years now. I love it. I didn’t and haven’t noticed anything bad. I don’t have to deal with a cycle anymore and that’s what I needed, since a hysterectomy was not an option.

I've been on it for about a year now and I've noticed that my periods are lighter and less painful but I recently got diagnosed with IC and haven't had a period since my diagnosis...

Been on it for 2 yrs now I believe and the generic version made by Mylan pharmaceuticals was the best on for me. When I started it I did get my period for 2 weeks as my body adjusted to the use of it. After that it was a period every month for 7 days or less and minimal side effects. Though I been recently started to be given a name brand one called Deblitane which is just Kellogg's to cereal as Deblitane is to the mini pill. That one has been making me spot old blood every day and increased my depression. So keep track of the brand you take as they can each treat you differently.
