Experiences with medication for OCD? I really want to get better but I’m hesitant about going on medication. I just started ERP therapy.

Zoloft has been amazing for my OCD. I still have some issues, but the severity of my intrusive thoughts and compulsions has been lessened drastically. I didn’t realize how much it helped until I was off my meds for 3 days - I had severe attacks and spent several hours (in the middle of the night) sitting on a bench! good luck on your journey :) wishing you the best

I’ve been on Fluvoxamine for my OCD for about 8 months and it’s been absolutely wonderful. Took a few months to inch up to the right dosage but once it got there it worked wonders. Many of my severe long term issues completely ended within the first week of medicating.

I have alot of experience with various subtypes of Ocd and taking medications for it. I was on Zoloft for over 15 years and on the highest dose allowed for 3 of those years. Zoloft helped me manage my ocd for a very long time, it can make you feel kind of numb at times and can also lead to other medical complications but nothing that isn't manageable with the right dosage and therapy. Thats one thing that you need to be prepared for and have accepted before starting, medicating for your ocd will not cure it but it will help immensely depending on your level of suffering. If you're going at your ocd alone without medicating I highly suggest you talk to your doctor about getting evaluated and seeing what medicating can do for you. It can be scary at first but I can not stress enough how much better you will be when you have something besides your own brain working to combat your ocd. Zoloft worked for me for all those years but I just recently changed to Luvox which is tailored more towards ocd so if you do decide to try medicating I highly recommend you ask about Luvox/Fluvoxamine. I'm a few months in and I have already noticed a significant difference.
