People with anorexia can experience loss of bone mass, which could lead to osteoporosis. However, it is not clear if it's more common only in severe cases.

I went to my gp for backpain and they straight away gave me a referral to get a bone density scan. I'd say its better to be safe than sorry and get checked out if you can/talk to your doctor if you have concerns. How long you've been undereating for would have an impact on it but every case is different

I wouldn’t say it’s quite common, as everyone’s physical experiences are different, but while I was in a medical hospital I was diagnosed with osteoporosis but I was indeed classified as “severe”. I’m certain many can experience osteoporosis without being in that category however because again, everyone’s body is different and physical side-effects if at all from Anorexia can be different depending on the person and also the duration of the illness

I recently had a DEXA scan and I am in the osteopoenic range (the stage before osteoporosis); I've had a diagnosed eating disorder for around 1 year but I think it may have been going on for longer. I've been told that by weight restoring it should hopefully reverse. I was surprised as I didn't/ don't think my eating disorder is "severe", but I suppose it may be that my perception is skewed. I am a healthcare professional myself and I've been made very aware of the impact of osteoporosis, it's definitely worth discussing with someone to try to protect your bones
