Irregular periods with PCOS - anyone else?

So I see a lot on here about people who have PCOS and everyone's comments I've read says they have regular irregular periods. Mine have been non existent for several months I think. Once it was almost a whole year. Does anyone else have this problem?

Yes. It's due to not ovulating. I reccomend speaking with your provider about working together to regulate your cycle as this can damage your uterine lining. My doctor just put me on a combination birth control to regulate mine.

I was on birth control for awhile.. it made me gain weight and it was not fun at all I was exercising DAILY for like 4 years I went into a major depression and now for the past 3 years or 4 since then I've just been giving up on medication until like last year.

So I thought I was getting irregular periods but when I first went to a gyn and got diagnosed with PCOS, she said that from the looks of my uterine lining I've rarely if ever had a real period because there was such a build up of uterine lining. That's why for me it was pretty important to be on birth control because too much of a buildup can lead to cancer apparently... So if you don't think you've gotten a period for a while I highly recommend speaking to your doctor about how to get that going again so you don't get a buildup

I have had this experience last year. Didn't have a period from may 2020 to December 2020. It sucked

Im gonna talk to my doctor like you suggested and see about getting treatment because as much as I like sometimes that I don't have to keep buying pads I know it's not healthy to not get a period

And yes I agree it does suck in a way that you can't really keep up that much with hormones it feels like..idk its confusing

Yes, going LONG periods of time is common, and not healthy. A period is kind of like your body's report card. Has anyone else heard of that? I've heard that from a few doctors. If yours are terrible, or if you're not having one, something is wrong. When I went on birth control, I stopped ovulating all together, and it's taken me months to get it back. There are so many alternate methods to just taking birth control, so make sure you are looking into other methods that will balance your hormones. Don't just go looking for different types of birth control.
