Managing Rosacea Flare-Ups and Dry Skin

I can normally keep my rosacea under control for the most part but if I get out in the heat for an extended amount of time I get really bad flare ups. my face seems to break out and gets really red and gets so bad it burns at times. after I shower it gets super dry and becomes very flakey. is there anything I can do to manage the flare ups and prevent the dry flakey skin on my face ??

There are topical medicines you can use. Metronidazole gel/cream helps with the inflammation and redness. Rhofade cream or Mirvaso gel helps with the redness. Antibiotics like doxycycline and minocycline can help with the break outs. Finacea (azelaic acid) can also help with redness. Other than that, when you shower, maybe try using a light, gentle face moisturizer. Cetaphil makes a good one. CeraVe also makes good stuff.

I'm on minocyclin and it seems to be working better than most of the other medications I've been on. Something else is to use non scented lotion to moisturize the skin. Preferably hypoallergenic.

Sunscreen and moisturizing lotion helps with going outside in the sun, but as someone who also suffers with rosacea, I try to go outside either early morning or dusk. The afternoon sun is the worst for people like us. I don't really have any recommendation on sunscreen, but I use CeraVe foaming face wash and daily moisturizer cream. They make my face feel much better. I'm not currently on any meds for rosacea and I think my redness may be permanent from years of exposure without taking care of it. 🤷‍♂️

I use eucerin products on my face including their sunscreen, but I think sometimes the night cream can make me break out a bit. I also have been using the e.l.f. sensitive skin face wash with oatmeal and niacin and I like it a lot! Also I use a brand called phat 5.5 rosacea cream. I don't think there is anyway to keep it from flaring up in the sun, I just wear a hat most of the time. I find the less I touch my face the better, and the only exfoliator that doesn't irritate my skin is good molecules pineapple exfoliator.

Starting this year: I now won't go outside without a sun hat and I wear 50+ sunscreen on my face every day. This has actually helped me a lot.
