Understanding the Difference Between Schizoaffective and Bipolar

so i’m very paranoid currently and this is going to sound stupid, (keep in mind i’m younger than most ppl on here so i don’t know as much ab this stuff) but my aunt has schizoaffective and my grandma and grandpa both have bipolar. i was diagnosed with bipolar at 14 or 15 after i had a severe manic episode that lasted 4-6 months (sorry very bad memory) and i’ve had many delusions since then and i just want to know the difference between schizoaffective and bipolar ?? i did look it up but i really wanna have like real peoples opinion. i don’t think i have schizophrenia or schizoaffective bc id probably know for sure by now but im just a worried person ig and need someone to tell me im just being paranoid

Schizoaffective can involve manic episodes but also include symptoms such as delusions/hallucinations and other psychotic symptoms that can also be shared with schizophrenia, meanwhile Bipolar usually only consists of Manic episodes, depressive episodes, and Hypomanic episodes, It's a completely valid question as the symptoms can be similar to eachother, and any paranoia is valid, especially when it comes from something your unsure about, I hope this helped and you feel better ♡

thank u this does help a lot, im just worried because i do experience hallucinations and before i was medicated my delusions were intense and lasted for weeks on end. im just very unsure of myself 😭 but thank u so much

I knew someone with bipolar disorder who experienced hallucinations/delusions, but they may have been misdiagnosed at the time. I think the divides between diagnoses like bipolar disorder and schizoaffective disorder can be a little blurry, because you can definitely have psychosis with bipolar disorder and not be diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder.
