Self-Isolation and Social Anxiety

Does anyone self-isolate to an extreme? I’ve been avoiding talking to my coworkers/roommates (they’re the same) for almost a week. Not in a way that’s like neglecting my duties or common courtesy, but I’m not engaging in conversations and I only feel at ease when I’m alone. (For the record, they are very good people.)

I do, quite a lot, however I don’t really fully at ease even alone. So I can understand knowing they’re good people who mean well but still being avoidant of them.

This is me everyday for my whole life. It’s why I don’t have any friends 😃

Yes, I very often go no-contact with my friends for weeks at a time. Not usually out of depression it's just my personality and how I destress. Nothing to feel bad about and the real friends usually catch on well enough and don't hold it against me.

I did this and in the beginning of the two days, my housemate who were supposed to be family blamed me and was not there to even ask what’s wrong because I only do this when I’m going through it. They claimed they couldn’t come to me because I would have my AirPods in while cooking and I could have to come to them. And know I have released people who are there when your struggling are your true friends. You truly learn who is your friends when your going through it…

Definitely. When I catch myself starting to do it, I've found transparency to be helpful with close friends-- simply telling them what's going on and assuring them it's nothing they did, and that hopefully I can work on improving the symptom. Over time we've developed keywords (like "hermiting") that lets the other person know without having to communicate every detail.
