Struggling with My Soda Addiction and Diabetes

Hello everyone! I can admit that I am a terrible diabetic. I am severely addicted to soda and juice, sugary drinks. I have read debates and studies against drinking diet drinks because aspartame is horrible for you. I am really trying to kick this. If anyone has any advice, I greatly appreciate it!

A few swaps you could make - try using clean electrolyte powder like LMNT to replace the sugary drinks or opt for products like Bai which are sweetened by stevia or xylitol.

I have a bad soda habit that comes and goes. I try for only having 1 large fountain drink a week, but after a really cold snap that lasted for a week or more, I bought a bunch of single sodas in all kinds of flavors. I was hoarding as if it was getting cold again but it's never become that cold again. I've gone thru that stash and now I have 6 pack bottles of high sugar soda from watching the Superbowl and the fact that my daughter is having a sleepover for her birthday. My goal is to make this soda last because I know I'll get awful muscle cramps when I drink soda everyday. I don't have diabetes but I think it's possible to get it??? Anyway, I am sorry you have diabetes. Do you get muscle cramps? I wanted to explain how you are not alone in addiction to sugary drinks. Are you allowed kombucha and/or Zevia. It can take awhile to get used to stevia drinks. If I come up with other ideas to manage this addiction, I'll let you know.

Yep eating disorders such as carb and sugar addiction is a terrible thing. I am going through that myself but so fat I've kicked the sugary sodas and juice. However I replaced store bought juice to actually making my own and then using them as treats once a month and there's a lot I've reserve them for when I'm sick, like oranges 🍊

Have you tried True lemon. You add it to your water. It only has 1 gram of sugar

I used to be the same then i started smLl by cutting off soda, coke, Fanta, sprite etc I would only have ginger beer or juice on special occasions, now I mostly have sparkling water or flavored water. It's been 3 years and I don't crave it. Good luck, you got this!

I used to be scared about aspartame and the other artificial sweeteners because of all the "it's poison" narrative. Then my dietician taught me the phrase "the dose makes the poison." The amount of aspartame we'd have to consume to be a risk, is way more than most people can consume. I've switched to sugar free soda, and black tea with Welches sugar free, aspartame free Cherry pomegranate water additive. Liam aka the_plant_slant on Instagram does a lot of videos talking about artificial sweeteners and has studies etc to back his claims.
