Spotting or Light Period: What's the Difference?

What’s the difference between spotting and a really light period? I’ve been having irregularity for a while but I’m working with a doctor to figure it out. And I’m supposed to be on my period this week but I’m hardly bleeding and don’t know if it’s just spotting or something else? One app I use is telling me I’m ovulating the other is telling me it’s my period. I don’t know…. Any thoughts or advice?

Hi, there are several ways to understand if the bleeding is normal or not. The most recommended way is to go to your gynecologist and perform an examination of the uterus and cervix with biopsies, that way you can understand if the lining of the uterus is normal or if there is something that is causing the bleeding such as a fibroid or a tumor. Secondly, you can try to perform hormonal treatment such as birth control pills and see if the bleeding depends on hormones or not, but for this you should also consult the gynecologist. Did you go to the gynecologist for a checkup?
