Stimulant Medications and Heart Problems

Anyone else have trouble with stimulant medications causing heart problems? I’ve been on both methylphenidate and adderall and the dose I need to help my adhd my body can’t handle without raising my heart rate or causing heart palpitations, concerning my psychiatrist. Anyone find medications other than stimulants that have been helpful as an adult with adhd?

Agreed with the above. Straterra is good stuff. Non-stimulant and effective.

Vyvanse hasn’t raised my heart rate that I’m aware of. I’m on a depression medication that we had to reduce the dosing because it’s an “upper” and so is Vyvanse… something about potential seizures. But no issues here.

I went from Adderall to Vyvanse to Strattera. I was in the hospital when I was taken off of Vyvanse and put on Strattera. I fellow patient quelled my anxiety about it being effective by saying that it would provide “clear focus”. How apt she was.

I'm on Strattera as well and it's tremendously helpful. I was on Guanfacine before Strattera but due to Guanfacine being a blood pressure medicine and personally having normal blood pressure, Guanfacine lowered my blood pressure too much, leaving me feeling awful. Before all that, I was on Adderall but then I was diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder and told that I cannot take stimulants at all, not even a mild stimulant like Vyvanse because it causes mania for people with Bipolar Disorder.
