Struggling with ADHD Medication

i’ve tried a number of different meds for my ADHD and they don’t work and/or have side effects that outweigh the benefits (Vyvanse killed my appetite, Strattera made me extremely nauseous, Concerta didn’t do anything, etc). i’m a bit anxious to try things like Ritalin or Adderall. was wondering if anyone had similar experiences/had any recs?

I was on Concerta for several years and Strattera for a few years. Concerta ruined my appetite and worsened my impulsive habits like picking my skin and lips till it bled, but it did help with concentration most of the times. Strattera made me tic like crazy and didn't help me at all. I started smoking marijuana and that worked magic for my ADHD and anxiety, but then I grew a tolerance to it and it can get expensive.

Strattera made me super nauseous too, so I take Adderall now and it’s great! It makes my anxiety a bit worse, but for me it’s worth it overall

@CaitiBee if you don’t mind me asking, how did Adderall make your anxiety worse?? (i ask because i have GAD and PTSD, and don’t necessarily want to make them worse)

@Meerfroesch i too have found that cannabis helps (but, yeah, definitely can get expensive, and as a college student, i just cant afford it as a regular sort of treatment). i also didn’t see any sort of improvement with the Strattera (the only way i knew it was even impacting me was with violent nausea— not fun). i’m sorry that you had such a negative experience with Concerta, though!! i was lucky enough not to have any additional effects from it (though i was told to “take it when i needed it” in addition to Vyvanse, so maybe that had an impact on the side effects??)
