Struggling with Emotional Eating

how do you stop yourself from eating whenever you feel anything? Every time i’m sad, mad, or even just bored I just eat. I don’t know how to build my relationship with food and feel like I never will.

try to notice what youre feeling when you go to reach for food and what you think the food is going to do, a lot of the time for me it’s distracting and i like watching something while i eat so im completely distracted. i try to tell myself- itll be there tomorrow and i dont need to fill up now because itll make me feel worse later, so my advice is to literally talk to yourself outloud and be like “hey , do we really need this or do we really just need a hug”

^totally agree and i also think sometimes it’s actually okay to let yourself emotionally eat of course while being mindful of why you are eating i practice intuitive eating as i am in recovery for an ed and i have struggled a lot with shame around emotional eating and i think the only way to handle it is to allow yourself to have full food freedom and maybe address the underlying issues relating to why you are having trouble with coping with certain situations/ emotions :)
