Struggling with Food Choices and Addiction

every day I feel like I think about food and the choices I make, yet I never allow myself the chances to make better choices or cook healthy meals. I don't know if it's a food addiction issue or if something else is going on. But I need to make better choices so I can lose weight and be healthier :( why is it so hard?

Fo me, a lot of it came down to just not knowing how to make and find healthy options that were still enjoyable. It felt like I had to pick between tasty and healthy, and all I knew how to seek out was tasty. I taught myself to view food as different types of fuel (carbs, fiber, protein, fats, and vitamins/minerals) which helped me see what types of fuel I was lacking or overusing. Oreos were no longer a bad, high calorie food, they were just a concentrated carb. I still need carbs, I can just choose between a small, concentrated carb or a larger and more filling carb depending on if I'm prioritizing the experience of the food or the efficiency of the fuel. I then dedicated a few weekends to making and trying snacks and meals that prioritized each type of fuel, and now when I'm hungry or want to eat, I can consider what fuels I still need for the day and pick something from that fuel category. This approach made me feel a lot more in control of my body and my food, and if you haven't tried it then I definitely recommend giving it a chance! Hopefully something in my experience can at least give you some ideas or inspiration! Remember, if no one took the time to teach you how to use and understand food, it isn't fair to expect yourself to magically know what to do. Education is 2/3rds of execution! Good luck and be patient with yourself!
