Struggling with Mobility in a Busy Town

Sometimes I need a walker to walk/stand. So, I had to walk a few blocks to a doctor's appointment today. Well, there is a highway that divides this rural town. It also divided me from the doctor office. I don't walk fast. I am tiny and my joints are aching with every step. Well, it took a few minutes to get across on the way to the office. That's great as this is the busiest street in town and around 1pm. However, I have to cross again after the appointment. It was super busy and there was large semi trucks with loud motors and so many cars... It was a lot to handle. I was okay with waiting until things calmed down. I looked at this greyish black semi which was within a block away. When it was about 30 feet away, it stopped. No stop sign. No reason to stop. I look the other way and a couple of cars pass then a white van stopped. I was surprised. They waited for me to cross. Most people wouldn't care.

I’m so glad that despite that hard task there were people who had compassion on you and understood that you needed a break across. I also often use mobility aids and walk slower so I understand. Hope you are doing okay ❤️

I’m so glad they stopped for you! Compassion is rare nowadays. Appreciate these moments and know there are still a few good people out there ❤️

I'm so glad they stopped for you❤ I also need to use a walker depending on the distance I need to walk. Its due to my back pain, so I use one with a seat attachment so I can stop and sit after a few minutes. I've had awful experiences with rude people about it. Not related to your story, but I've had people yell awful things at me as they drive by while I'm just trying to reach my destination. I'm still a fairly young person, so when they see me walking with a walker, sometimes they take it as an opportunity to make fun of me. I used to have to make the same walk daily for a while, and the amount of hate I got from random people driving by was just insane. Sorry for oversharing, just felt comfortable telling my story.
