Struggling with Regular Showers

Does anyone else have trouble showering regularly? I know it might be disgusting but I can only force myself to shower once or twice a week. It’s just an exhausting process and takes a lot out of me. I’m still clean; I change my clothes, brush my hair, even wash my face most days. But I just can’t make myself shower as often as I think I should

Your not alone! I struggle with it too, it makes me feel disgusting that I only shower 2X a week even tho I know I’m “clean” in other ways, but showering is so difficult and exhausting. It’s also extra difficult for me because I was SA in a shower so I can’t shower in unfamiliar places or if there is a male in the home and I’m currently couch surfing Bc I got kicked out of my house. So the only time I CAN shower is at my boyfriends house when his dad isn’t home and I’m only there three days a week

I’m so sorry for what happened to you, I’m glad you feel comfortable showering at your boyfriend’s house. Thank you for making me feel less alone 💕

I struggle with a lot of things daily because of depression. I can't seem to brush my hair, shower, or do some basic things because they are so draining.

I really thought I was alone with this problem at one time I took a shower every morning and sometimes a hot bath at night It takes everything for me to take a shower once a week. Clean clothes every day dry shampoo and baby wipes have became so routine for me now

Just in case it's helpful, people who shower every day are common but showering every day is not healthy for your hair and skin. Showering ever other day is much better, or even showering with 2 days in between each shower. Which you can argue of someone says you should shower every day. You're probably cleaner than people may think from you simply not showering every day. That said I've had times where I went 2 weeks without showering, granted I was younger and produced less stinky sweat. I didn't get complaints about being stinky and nobody had ever avoided me any more than they did when I managed to shower more. When I was really depressed usually I'd shower an average of once every week or week and a half. It's not that I didn't want to shower it's that I forgot from the stress I was feeling. I stayed in bed and didn't leave. I didn't brush my teeth, I didn't wash my face, I didn't remember deodorant most days, I wasn't that clean. But it was also adhd. I guess it didn't really make sense where I'm going with this but it's completely okay if you only shower once or twice a week. That sounds healthy to me and you're only really dirty for maybe a day or if the week and really it's not even bad. If you have depression, ptsd, adhd, any of that then that's impressive to me. If not then you sound completely normal and healthy. You could maybe shower more but really I wouldn't worry too much.

Showering is soooo much to do! It's exhausting. I always shower on Sunday nights so I start my week fresh and clean and if I have energy I shower Wednesday or Thursday

I honestly think it is much more common than people think, but most people are probably too embarrassed to admit how often or not often they actually shower… and there are sooooo many valid reasons for not showering often that are understandable and have nothing to do with idk laziness which is what my parents would call it 🙄

I don't think not showering daily is disgusting or unhealthy in any way. I encourage you to let yourself off the hook for this and to embrace life!

I'm in the same boat, I shower about 2x a week. In between showers there's wipes/dry shampoo that sorta thing. By the end of my days I don't have the energy and it's daunting to even think about going through all of it. But the way I started viewing it was that it's ok to be like that, because I'm doing my best. I'm doing what I have energy for right now. You aren't alone :)

I struggle with this too. I always feel like everyone knows about it too, which stresses me out at work.

Same. Showers involve a lot of standing up in one place and right now my hair is long and thick so when it's wet it becomes a horrible weight for my neck. I try to keep clean regardless of if I can will myself into a shower or not. Baby wipes or mild handsoap and warm tap water can be a life saver. If I had a working bathtub, I think I would just switch back over to baths because at least I'd be laying down.

I struggle with it as well not only does it take a lot out of me but my skin dries out to fast so i can only safely shower every other day...... But even that sometimes seems like to much

I am the same. I can't shower more than once or twice a week. I have depression and anxiety and I don't know what it is...I stay as clean as possible. It's just getting motivated to get in the shower is hard for some reason. I thought I was the only one.

I’m been there. Getting out of bed, showering, eating. It’s impossible at times I feel like a weight is. Holding me down.

Same here. I even buy dry shampoo to help between washings but I'm pretty sure only in America most are conformed to shower daily. Which is ok but to the extent to washing your hair it should only be done like twice per week. Just like in some other places shaving is a no no simply. Only whores do that but in America your simply ewww if you don't and looked down apon. Why when your natural. The hair is a protection and does many good things for your body like protecting your bits... My kid even only showers like twice per week. I can't male her do it any more. Also it is great for the environment. After all we only have soo much water.

I don’t shave, it’s too much work and I’m honestly comfortable enough in my own skin to just own my body hair

I really think this whole conversation proves that it's fairly common to shower on a semi regular basis. Everyone has their preferences, but we all get to make our own choices. We're adults and if we want to shower twice or once a week, that's our business. We're cool everybody, just keep being you and take care of yourselves the best you can.😁💙💙💙

Something I've found useful to to plan the transition to the shower carefully. Maybe just go into the bathroom and read. Then, you are one step closer to the water. Maybe just turn the water on while reading, or watching a show. Sometimes the little things that make it seem , I don't know...safer, are helpful for me.

Same here, even when I'm not struggling most days with my mental health, showering still feels like such a chore until I can smell how bad I am without trying, then i finally shower

I have the same problem. It bothers me but I can't seem to change it. I'll wash my hair and have a sponge bath, but I rarely shower. It's such a chore.
