Struggling with Relaxation and Emptiness

So I'm too hyper to meditate and I have trouble relaxing. I use a lot of distracting. Any other good ideas for getting rid of feelings of emptiness or depression?

A friend of mine once said to make a list of everything you like about yourself. Even though you don’t know me, I will say that you’re strong because you have survived every bad day so far and I have faith that you’re able to survive more. Keep going, you’re doing well!

Do you have any random hobbies or ones you’d like to try? Maybe you can make a new playlist or you know that iOS update where you can personalize you’re Home Screen, that usually keeps me distracted for a while especially if you have a theme even if it’s just ur favorite color

I have a recumbent bike and I can actually still do that with my paralysis somewhat I do think that helps with depression and raising endorphins. I watch a lot of YouTube on things that I enjoy and try to distract myself. I wish you the very best

For me a bathtub with no lights. Some creepy ambient music like the Silent Hill 2 OST, and my head completely under water but nose so I can breath. It helps me cancel out the world and the water calms my mind to meditate. Hope this helps.

so whenever i’m feeling that emptiness and bottomless pit, i try to harness it. I try to express it by making something creative. like sketching (expressions, faces, figures, or just random scribbles or splashes of color) or writing (seriously my poems are f**ng depressing) and yeah that helps me and I usually get out of the mood when I’m satisfied with what I’ve made. so I’m left feeling both no longer empty, and liking what i made. maybe try it, with whatever creative thing you like doing

Comedy. Netflix has lots of comedians, as well as YouTube. Laughing usually puts me in a better mood. Also, finding something to look forward to/be interested in. I was in a bad funk until I decided to start a garden, but I'm on a very small budget. I heard about a plant sale and got excited waiting for the one day I could go to the plant sale. It gave me something to look forward to. When the day came, it got me out of the house. I planted my garden which continues to keep me busy, and it also gave me the energy to do the other things I had let go when I was in my depressed state, like clean the house!

sometimes I find when I'm so down, I can't even laugh at comedy. 😔

As I teach meditation, I tell people that meditation looks differently to different people. Some people use painting as a meditation, others walking, some just looking at a sunrise or sunset. Still yet, others might just tune in to focus on their breathing and following it in and out of the nose into the lungs and then back out in a circular pattern.

Coloring with some calm music 🖍 or making beaded jewelry. Gives your hands something to do while requiring minimal effort

I have found journaling to be really helpful. I don't even mean just writing down everything that happened during the day, but rather just what's in your mind. When my mind feels hyperactive and I can't relax it usually helps quite a bit.

Well, fidgeting I can help. Get like a velvet square, it's quiet and an interesting texture for your brain to focus on
