Struggling with Rheumatoid Arthritis

The biggest struggle I have is rheumatoid arthritis because I believe it's going to wind up being the one illness that will cripple me. It scares me. Just need a word of encouragement.

RA treatments have come a long way in even just the last 10 years. I've had RA for 13 years. 50 years ago I would have been unable to work and sometimes bedridden. As it stands I am able to live a normal life 85% of the time and can still manage through most flares. If we have come that far in such a short amount of time, think where we will be in the next ten years!

And RA works in cycles. You are going through a rough patch, but it won't always be this bad.

I go on and off worrying about that… I’m a teacher and I flare BAD at the beginning of every school year, and I wonder if and when I will start needing mobility aids, or become clinically disabled. But the flare passes, and I am currently trying not to plan out the future too intensely.

Fall is the absolute worse flare for me. Despite being mostly in remission, this time of year I've learned to preemptively ask for Prednisone to start ahead of it and that helps.
