Suppressing Tics in Abusive Households

to those in restrictive / abusive / etc. households : do you find that you’re more able to suppress your tics at home or when you’re out with abusive family members vs. when you’re out with friends or away from parents in general ? ive been starting to feel like a faker because my tics are virtually nonexistent ( besides for the occasional one coming through when my family is out of earshot or when i am home alone ) when i am at home , but when i’m at school they go pretty much haywire .

I just moved out of my abusive home and when in that home my tics were pretty much non existent as well. However I’m public with them they were out of control. I was the quote “embarrassment” and that made my tics even worse. With friends and safe people I feel free to express myself appropriately and my tics both verbal and physical calmed yet did not stop. I was told to repress for 18 years and am finally learning to allow them to show and be comfortable with them. Do what keeps you safe and good luck with your journey💕 you are not faking and no one in this community will ever think that about you☺️
