Taking Estrogen and Progesterone: Need Advice

Taking estrogen and progesterone? So i'm 22, and have been taking estrogen since I was 14 (I started with Premarin and then switched to Estradiol) and I've never taken progesterone with it. My doctor bas said that I'll start progesterone when I get a cycle, but that hasn't happened yet so we just keep increasing my estrogen dose. I thought this was typical but it seems like other people start progesterone right away (even before they get a cycle) because of the cancer risk? Anyone have any experience with this?

Hi, taking estrogen without progesterone can be dangerous and cause endometrial cancer, therefore it is recommended to combine pills containing estrogen and progesterone or alternatively pills containing only progesterone. I suggest that you consult with your doctor when you can add the progesterone, in order to protect yourself as well.

yeah that's what i thought, i mentioned it to my doctor and she said adding progesterone "isn't necessary" until i start having cycle. Weird, but i'm not a doctor so I don't know

Edit: this is a pediatric endocrinologist, and i'm 22. I'm not sure why me switching to adult care has never been discussed, maybe its time for a switch

what’s ur condition? I have Swyer’s and have been on estradiol for like two years – I have gotten my cycle and haven’t added progesterone. personally I really trust my doctor and she hasn’t said anything about cancer risk (other than with the streak gonads which I had removed) but I also don’t know how different our situations are
