Has anyone had a thyroid goiter removed?

Hello Just wondering has anyone ever had a goiter on their thyroid? I have a goiter about 7.3 in size the Dr says I need to have my left side of thyroid removed. Just wondering if this is something anyone has experienced? Thank you

I had the same thing and had mine removed 4 years ago. I feel so much better and the scar is barely noticeable. I hope this helps and good luck!

Thank you so much for replying back to me. I am a little scared only because I have never had any type of surgery done. Doctor says he will be removing the left side of my thyroid. Not to sure if I will require thyroid medication afterwards. Thank you again for helping me not be as scared

Morning. I also have a goiter on my thyroid but it’s several nodules all over my thyroid. I am not required to remove my thyroid at this point but I do have biopsy done every two years to make sure it doesn’t become cancerous. Eventually I will need to remove my complete thyroid if the nodules gets too big or they find any abnormal cells from any of the biopsy. When you have your surgery after just make sure you have your thyroid level monitored to make sure it is functioning well. You will do well, just get to know your body well and pay attention to it.
