Seeking Opinions on Trying Medication for Bipolar Disorder

My therapist wants me to try medication because she thinks I'm bipolar. I don't like medication do to issues in the past. But wanted to hear other people's opinions or experiences

TOTALLY understand your feeling on that. I battled that for years. Now I look back and wish I had started taking medicine sooner. Medications are not a fix-all and sometimes they have some side effects but I had to weigh that out with the benefits. The benefits for me are that today I am so much more present with my wife and kids. I enjoy life more, pursue passions etc. I still have low spots but they are way less severe. I also felt with a self esteem thing with meds for a while. Like “I shouldn’t have to take medicine, or like I didn’t feel real or authentic” if you feel that, your not alone. Just remember people with heart issues, blood pressure, diabetes and countless other things take medications daily to increase their quality of life so why can you. There is an unfortunate stigma with mental illnesses. Don’t let it get in the way of YOU getting well!

I would like to add - finding the right meds is important… i went thru 4 till i found one that worked with minimal side effects (Vraylar for me) if it makes u feel worse ask for something different right away as well.
