Applying for Blue Badge and PIP in the UK

Anyone here from the UK and applied for a Blue Badge or PIP? If so, what were the assessments like? I have both coming up and don't know what to expect!

Can you help? Connect today

I did my PIP assessment over the phone in September and didn’t get awarded it. You need to always talk worst case scenario but obviously be honest. Let them know how much you may rely on other people. Good luck!

I think my worry is that my bad days are so much worse than my "good" days. I'll make sure to answer each question as if it's my bad day and hope they understand the condition fluctuates. Thanks!

i want to be honest here so i’m sorry if these seems blunt: PIP assessments are degrading and disgusting. they make you feel like you are doing something wrong by having a disability. they twisted the truth in my report repeatedly. truthfully, the report actually made no sense and was not what i said. it was traumatic and made me not want to ask for help again. this is not everyone’s experience, but it is mine, my dads and my partners.

they did everything they could to catch me out too. i said i once made my partner a recipe from a recipe book. one time. they wrote in my report that i am able to cook multiple meals a day and follow complex recipes.

thank you, I know they can be like that. My partner applied years ago and couldn't leave the house unassisted. They said she can take care of herself and therefore go to interviews and hold down a job, simply because she said she can brush her teeth. The things they wrote were so far off what was actually said. Part of me is consideting making notes too, of what they asked me and my response to each, for an easier appeal process. Thank you for your comments

hiya yes! Pip assessment was horrrrible, they want to catch u out and the lady lied in my report a lottttt, so i was awarded with nothing. First time i appealed: they awarded me with daily living only. Second appeal: i am much more confident with this one as i am appealing for a tribunal so its with an independent judge and doctor which is excellent!! Got a call from pip a few days ago telling me that they can award me with the basic rate of daily living and basic rate of mobility ONLY if i cancel the tribunal appeal😒. That only motivated me to keep fighting for myself because the dwp know that my case is stronger and that they lied lots so the tribunal will most likely agree on my case. My theory is that PIP is awarded to those who literally FIGHT for themselves because my disability evidence hasnt changed much … only the fact that i have appealed and now to a tribunal which is more official. Hope that helps!!

thanks! I'm still waiting for an assessment date. I'll see if I can record the assessment or something, or have someone with me to take notes. I know they're prone to lying and exaggerating capabilities. Thank you :)

I have just been awarded pip and an in the motions for a blue badge. Make everything worse case scenario. It's horrible to do and the likely hood is that the report will not be remotely what you said or feel like. Also did my assessment over the phone to emphasize that I am bedridden because of I got up to go to the appointment in person it ' looks' like I'm fine. When in reality it would take me days to recover from it. However if you get awarded pip you automatically get a blue badge. However I am waiting for it to go through separately so that I get the blue badge for longer ( 3 ye instead of 2 which is when I would have be reassessed for pip). It's going to be shit and it won't be fair at all so just be prepared

When they ask you a question give the answers based on what you are like on your worst days, not just that day x

Mine was awful, because of my conditions i found it really hard to fill out and in the end i gave up hecause while filling the forms out over and over again amd researching the criteria I relised I currently don't meet any standards because I live with my parents and my mum has a good paying job. I can theoretically look after myself (get dressed, clean and do things in general by myself) and I have a roof over my head. It sucks but I won't discouraged you. All I will say is to research the criteria and talk to someone who fills them out lots (I got advice and all I would get would be a thing saying I tried for benifiys and wouldn't get any) a main warning is its super strict and annoying and if you apply too often they will veto you automatically as they'd how corrupt our government is. Sorry for a downer but it was my experiences with filling it out and talking to the help services
