Debating Veganism vs Vegetarianism: A Dilemma

One of our system wants to go vegan, for a lot of good reasons including animal ethics, climate, and health. I feel that veganism is a radical behavior, and socially untenable, and would rather be vegetarian as this is a more moderate compromise. How to handle this dilemma?

I know a number of people who eat an almost entirely plant based diet, but will eat cheese or eggs on occasion, or if there’s nothing else available. You don’t have to be 100% vegan all the time to still be making a difference in regards to animal ethics, climate, and health
