Waiting for Autism Assessment: Seeking Encouragement and Advice

Hi everyone! I’m a high schooler who is waiting in line at my city’s autism assessment clinic—it’s been a very difficult year with wondering whether or not I am autistic, gauging whether it’s even important enough to mention, or (since I am low-support needs) even getting people to take me seriously. Really all I want is some peace in my own brain. Does anyone have any words of encouragement or advice? Thank you so much!! 💕🐊✨

You got this. It doesn't matter if you are "low needs" or "high needs". Those terms along with the "high functioning" and "low functioning" aren't accurate to use. Autism can change any day, you can be able to cook breakfast but lunch could be a different story. Having an autistic diagnosis is very helpful to have on records as doctors will treat you differently but that's only because most don't think you act "normal". It's a great way to get better help. If you are in the USA, there's a place called CARDS or Center for Autism and other Relatable Disorders. It's only in 24 states as of now. If you like in Michigan there's a place called MRS or Michigan Rehabilitation Service that also helps. With an autism diagnosis you can get SSI. Again this is only information for the US as I do not know laws in other countries. There's also a website made by an autistic woman to help other autistic people. It's called embrace-autism.com and it has tests to take and I think also helpful links.
