Week-long Migraine, Need Advice!

Hi I’m Nancy, 29. I have had migraines since I was kid. But this migraine is going on a week! I called my neurologist who ordered me an oral migraine cocktail, but it did not help nor has my triptan. What should I do?!?

Have you tried a cefaly or other alternatives to pills? There’s this thing called rebound headaches that can happen if you take too many NSAID’s or triptans….

I’ve learned a lot from Migraine World Summit over the years, and one thing a specialist on there talked about was how our bodies don’t metabolize pills in the stomach when in severe pain. Especially after the pain has been going on for a length of time. Pills work great when the migraine starts or is in the beginning stages. After it’s been going on for hours or longer, then you need to take intramuscular shots or have an IV done. Nasal sprays might work better as well. I’ve been taking these 3 intramuscular shots at home for 8 years - Toradol, Promethazine, & DHE. Someone has to administer them to me at home, and it knocks me out for several hours. These work really great together - only when you use all 3.
